NEW ISSUE NOW AVAILABLE

Our July 2008 issue continues our series of interviews with non-profit organizations working for the good of animals and the environment. This time around, we've included two interviews with National Wildlife Federation and Defenders of Wildlife.

Also featured in this issue is an interview with Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory fame whom we interviewed a few years ago. This time he's promoting his brand new band, Ascension of the Watchers, so we got to talk about what inspired such a change in his musical output. We then got a little political with Colin Davis of Vile, who is our favorite conspiracy theorist (read his blogs at www.myspace.com/vile to see what we mean).

But the most important part of this issue is the Vent column, which is a tribute to George Carlin, whose death leaves us with a huge void and so much sadness. Rob and I grew up with Carlin, who made us laugh and taught us so much through his political and social commentary while inspiring us with his amazing writing and performing abilities. We looked up to him as a hero, and still do even though he's gone, and he's had such a major impact on our lives that we will never forget him, and it's so hard to imagine what life will be like without a new HBO special or new book from him ever again. Even though we had hopes of someday meeting him and telling him just how much of a genius we thought he was and how much we loved him, we do feel blessed to have seen him less than a month before his death when he performed live in NJ and we had 2nd row seats (and forgot to take pictures with our cell phones probably because we were too busy taking it all in). A great thinker and entertainer is gone but he'll live on always, and his legacy has left an indelible mark on American society. His words will teach us for many years to come; they will never lose their power or their relevance. George Carlin, we hope you're having a great time up there with all the greats who went before you; we hope to see you again someday.

Al Jourgensen and Ministry's Gift to the Fans of Chicago Blackhawks Hockey

The resurging Chicago Blackhawks Hockey team has no bigger fan than Al Jourgensen, the "Mayor of Chicago's Underground," the godfather of the industrial music scene, and founder and lead singer of the legendary rock band Ministry. As the 2007/2008 Blackhawks team makes its push for the 2008 playoffs, its fans now have another great sports anthem, courtesy of Al and his co-conspirators in Ministry. "Keys To The City," a rock anthem sure to inspire Blackhawks fans worldwide, will debut on March 5, 2008. As part of the debut, 200 lucky fans of Ministry and the Blackhawks will win tickets to see the March 5 game.

Born in Cuba and having immigrated to the U.S. at the age of two, Jourgensen was raised in Colorado and Chicago, settling in the Windy City in the late 1970s. As a youth, Al would attend Chicago Blackhawks Hockey games watching from the upper balcony at the old Chicago Stadium. After founding the industrial metal rock band in 1980, and as the band gained popularity, Al graduated to season tickets in the main bowl. Living now in El Paso, TX, Al still gets back to Chicago from time to time to watch his beloved Blackhawks and is a worldwide evangelist for the team, often sporting his Blackhawks jersey on tour.

Last fall, as the buzz began to build around the new, young Blackhawks team, Jourgensen decided he wanted to add to the momentum. In his studios rehearsing for their farewell tour, Al picked up on a guitar riff that hadn't made his final album and started building what would become "Keys to the City," a sports rock anthem that he presented as a gift to the Wirtz family and the Chicago Blackhawks in December of 2007. The Blackhawks have since embraced the song as a great opportunity to reach out to a new generation of Blackhawks fans; a worthy companion to the team's official theme song, "Here Come The Hawks."

"The Chicago Blackhawks RULE!" said Al Jourgensen. "I am honored to be a part of the history and legend of one of hockey's Original Six. I hope 'Keys to The City' inspires some awesome fights on the ice."

Keys to the City
Though containing trademark intensity and guitar riffs, "Keys to the City" is less a traditional Ministry song, but more a classic sports anthem in structure. Built around a drum/bass line that recalls Garry Glitter's "Rock n' Roll Pt 2," the song is a rallying cry for Blackhawk fans. Name checking the past Hawk greats like Hull, Mikita, Esposito and Savard, the song celebrates the resurgence of the Blackhawks and the quest to bring home the Stanley Cup to Chicago. It is already popular among the young Blackhawks players upon which the team is building its future championships.

March 5 Debut
Al Jourgensen will travel to Chicago for the March 5 debut of the song. After a day of media interviews supporting the song and Ministry's farewell tour, which comes to Chicago's House of Blues in early May, Jourgensen and his wife will be the guest of the Blackhawks at the game that night and will participate in game festivities. As part of the day's promotions, 200 fans of Ministry and the Blackhawks will get free tickets to the televised March 5 home game against the Anaheim Ducks. Details on how to win the tickets will be posted at ChicagoBlackhawks.com. "Keys to the City" will be available for download via iTunes, and as a link from ChicagoBlackhawks.com, starting March 5. Proceeds from the song will benefit the Blackhawks charities. To purchase tickets to the March 5 Blackhawks game, visit ChicagoBlackhawks.com.

BLACK MARKET ACTIVITIES proudly announce the signing of ROMANS!

Black Market Activities is proud to announce the signing on Vermont natives,
Romans.

(guitar) teamed up with Ben Lee (guitar) and Kevin Savage (drums) in the
winter of 2006. The band sought the services of Sean Martin (bass) and Tom
Kelly (vocals) rounded out the bands current line-up.

Romans, still new on the scene, is already making an impact with their
self-released debut “All Those Wrists”. While the chaotic speed of Converge,
heavy ambiance of Isis, space-rock of Failure and Cave In, and the balls-out
rock of Queens of The Stone Age can be heard on “All Those Wrists”; Romans
choose to play without limitations. Check out tracks from “All those Wrists”
at http://www.myspace.com/romansnoise.

ANIMOSITY to tour the East Coast with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and a full U.S. tour with FIRST BLOOD!

Bay Area based extreme metal band Animosity joins forces with hardcore heavy-weights First Blood (Trustkill) for a full U.S. tour, raging even as far as Canada. Prior to touring with First Blood, Animosity will tour a short East Coast stint with The Black Dahlia Murder (Metal Blade).

Animosity first hit the scene in 2000, when most of the members were only 15 years old, with a blistering brand of death metal/hardcore that sought to defy stereotypes and spit in the face of the mainstream. Almost 2 years after their Black Market Activities debut, Animosity is back and poised to showcase their tremendous talent and growth with “Animal”.

Musically, “Animal” shows an enormous progression from their prior releases. The album is themed on the frailty of our lives as animals in a violent and turbulent world. Dealing with the loss of loved ones and feeling disenchanted with a seemingly unfair environment, ‘Animal’ is Animosity’s most personally reflective and outwardly aggressive creation to date. The subject matter of the album strikes an emotional chord as it was written in the aftermath of vocalist, Leo Miller losing his girlfriend to a runaway drunk driver.

Never Enough: Rare Acoustic Footage Now Online

Frontman, Norman Matthews, has checked in after the group performed two intimate acoustic sets for fans in Orange County and El Paso:
"The in stores were amazing! It was great to kick things off in our hometowns of Orange County, CA and El Paso, TX," says Matthews. "It was also nice to get personal with the fans and be able to perform so close, not only physically, but emotionally. My grandfather passed away as I arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday, so the acoustic performances for me were without a doubt extremely emotional, especially when we closed the sets with 'Hush'. At one point I fought back the tears. The best thing was, this is only the beginning. World, prepare for NEVER ENOUGH."

SLAYER GETS THIRD GRAMMY NOMINATION

With at least one foot planted firmly in Hell, N.A.R.A.S. members have nominated SLAYER, the acknowledged kings of extreme speed/thrash/punk-metal, for their third Grammy Award. The Slayer track, "The Final Six," from the band's 2007 Limited Edition "Christ Illusion," was nominated in the category of "Best Metal Performance."

"The Final Six," written by Slayer's vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The song made its debut last July as the Single of the Week on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.

"When I first got the word, I thought someone was playing a joke," mused Araya. "But obviously, we've made an impression on the industry. The people at the upper levels have taken notice of what we've done, and that's awesome."

Slayer's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All," and last year's "Eyes of the Insane," for which they took home the Grammy Award.

Right after the New Year, Slayer plans to start working on new material for their eleventh studio album, intended for a 2008 release, and will tour the world to support it. "I'm excited to see where the new music will go, how it's going to sound, what the total writing and recording experience will be like. I'm sure it will be like the one for 'Christ Illusion' - great!"

SOAD's ODADJIAN JOINS WITH HANS ZIMMER AND The RZA TO SCORE FIRST FEATURE FILM

Shavo Odadjian, music video director, DJ, and bassist for the multi-Platinum, Grammy Award-winning rock band System of a Down, will add film scorer to his list of credits with his work on the upcoming sci-fi/thriller feature film, "Babylon AD," starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and Gerard Depardieu. The film is being directed by Cannes Award winning French director Mathieu Kassovitz ("La Haine/Hate"), and will be released over the Labor Day Weekend, 2008.

Working closely on the score with Academy Awarding winning composer Hans Zimmer and composer Atli Orvarsson, Odadjian is collaborating with writing/scoring partner, Wu-Tang Clan's The RZA, writing and scoring several tracks for "Babylon AD," as well as various "futuristic-specific" musical themes and orchestration throughout the film. "Musically, our objective was to merge the sounds and energies of hip hop with classical music, seamlessly melting them into an unusual soundscape," explained Zimmer. "Shavo's unique talent, perspective and ability have achieved exactly that, and then some."

Much of the music for the score is being performed by Achozen, the musical alliance formed by Odadjian and The RZA.

As bassist for System of a Down, Odadjian has seen every one of the band's five albums hit the Platinum mark with three debuting at #1 on Billboard's Albums charts, and has sold in excess of 10-milliion albums in the U.S. alone. He has written and/or directed the music videos for the band's "Toxicity," "Aerials," "Question" and "Hypnotize," and earlier this year, wrote and directed the Bad Brains video for the song, "Give Thanks and Praises."

Onesidezero - Brett Kane, rejoins band

Onesidezero have announced the addition of original guitarist, Brett Kane, to the group for select tour cycles. Kane has re-joined the band, along with guitarist Colin Crow, who will be filling in on the West Coast tour dates currently underway.

"It's great to be jamming with Brett again. He's a huge part of our sound and is a great performer," says drummer Rob Basile. "I've missed his random noises and trippy affects. He also never fails to give the worst "stink eye" if someone trainwrecks at a show! As for Colin, he's an old friend and former member of the band Allergic. It's been a pleasure having him jam with us, and it feels like old Onesidezero again! Come check it out!"

"It's been great having Brett back in the band. It's like he never left. One forgets how important his parts are and then realizes how much more depth the song has when he is playing," added bassist Cristian Hernandez. "Colin is a great guitarist. Having Colin in the band is like a breath of fresh air, he's been able to cover all the parts and has even added his own style to them, so it's almost like hearing the song for the first time again."

The band has announced a short tour of the West Coast to round out the year, before embarking on a European tour alongside ADEMA and RE:IGNITION in early 2008.

Buckcherry Wraps Up an Amazing Year

Buckcherry has recently announced its milestone 300th live show in support of their most recent album, "15," slated for December 15th at Las Vegas' House of Blues. The show marks the end of an amazing year for the band - "15" has proven a triumph, spending a remarkable 82 weeks on the Billboard 200 on its way towards RIAA platinum certification for sales above 1 million units. "Sorry," the fifth and most recent single, is currently ascending the top 25 at Hot AC outlets nationwide, and the album's first blockbuster hit single, "Crazy Bitch" earned the band a 2007 Grammy Awards nomination in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category. In addition, "Crazy Bitch," recently celebrated a full year in the Nielsen Ringscan Top 30 - the only track to do so in the chart's history. "Crazy Bitch" has been certified as a Platinum Master Ringtone by the RIAA.

On November 20th, the band will release an MVI edition of "15," a PC/MAC-compatible DVD which will feature full album audio, downloadable files for every song, previously unreleased live tracks (including "Everything," "Next 2 You," and "Crazy Bitch"), videos, an exclusive photo gallery, complete lyrics, U-Myx (which allows fans to create their own custom remixes of "Crazy Bitch" and "Everything"), plus a variety of digital extras (such as ringtones, screen savers, buddy icons, and wallpapers). In addition, fans who register their "15" MVI can unlock future content as it becomes available.

Never Enough - To The Bottom - Mp3 Download

Never Enough, featuring ex-members of Eighteen Visions and Lylah, have posted a free Mp3 download of the track "To The Bottom" online through the Corporate Punishment Podcast at the following location: http://corporatepunishment.libsyn.com/

The track comes from Never Enough's debut, self-titled album ("1.0") which will be available digitally through iTunes and other major digital retailers on November 20th and in stores on December 4th, 2007. The band is currently offering fans a free Never Enough t-shirt to anyone who pre-orders the album through the Corporate Punishment Records website at the following location http://www.corporatepunishment.com/shop/index.php?manufacturers_id=28

When asked about the song, front-man Norman Matthews called it, "Heavy, killer, hook laden guitars with a huge chorus. For me, the song is about people only seeing on the surface, not digging deeper to find out what is really going on with someone. A lot of times we mask our true feelings, but deep inside we are an ocean unto ourselves, deeps seas of emotions longing for someone or something to dig deep and save you."

Never Enough recently teamed up with Ultimate Guitar to release behind the scenes video footage on the set of group's upcoming "Devil I Am" video. The video footage can be seen at the following location

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE ALBUM, "SCREAM AIM FIRE," ON JANUARY 29, 2008

Having spent most of the last two years taking over the world with massive UK, European, U.S. and worldwide headline tours, supporting Guns N Roses, Metallica and Iron Maiden, playing Main Stage at almost every rock festival across the world, and seeing their 2006 debut album, "The Poison" - an album London's daily The Sun called "One of the finest debut albums in rock history" - sail past the million sales mark (350,000 in the U.S. alone), BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE is set to return with album number two, "Scream Aim Fire," set for release in the U.S. on January 29, 2008 (Jive/SonyBMG).

"Scream Aim Fire" was produced by Colin Richardson (Machinehead, Funeral For A Friend) who also produced "The Poison," and was recorded at Sonic Ranch near El Paso, TX earlier this year. The eleven new songs are, according to frontman Matthew Tuck, "really melodic heavy metal...catchy, hooky choruses and full-on vocals, with the music being very in-your-face and heavy...it's a lot more uptempo [than 'The Poison'], a lot more aggressive."

An exclusive 15-minute digital single - a special sneak preview of "Scream Aim Fire" - will be available for download beginning December 18. Two of the album's tracks, "Eye of the Storm" plus the title track will be included, along with the band's Matt and Moose providing a behind-the-scenes track-by-track commentary about the album. The "Scream Aim Fire" digital single will sell for $1.98 and be available through all the major digital media services (iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, etc.).

The four-piece metal core band from Bridgend, South Wales, UK - Matthew "Matt" Tuck/vocals, Michael "Padge" Paget/Guitar, Michael "Moose" Thomas/drums, and Jason "Jay" James/Bass - are, according to the UK's Kerrang!, well on their way to "phase two of world domination" with the new disc. For "The Poison," Bullet For My Valentine graced the covers - at least once - of Kerrang!, Rock Sound, and Metal Hammer. In addition, they won Metal Hammer's 2006 "Golden God Award" for Best British Band, and the 2006 Kerrang! Award for "Best UK Single" for their track "Tears Don't Fall." Here in America, the band was named "British Import of the Year" in Revolver, and "The Poison" generated the hit singles "Tears Don't Fall" and "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)," with the video for "All These Things I Hate" going to the #1 spot on MTV2.

Bullet For My Valentine will headline a tour of the UK and Europe starting in late January, and will then head to the U.S. in late February. Details to be announces shortly.

Full track listing for "Scream Aim Fire" is as follows:
Scream Aim Fire
Eye of the Storm
Hearts Burst Into Fire
Waking the Demon
Disappear
Deliver Us From Evil
Take It Out On Me
Say Goodbye
End of Days
Last to Know
Forever and Always

MINISTRY SAYS "C U LaTouR" - WORLD TOUR STARTS MARCH, 2008

On the heels of their final studio release, "The Last Sucker," released September 18, 2007, MINISTRY announces their final world tour, "C U LaTouR," with Special Guests Meshuggah and opening act Hemlock. Ministry kicks off the North American leg of "C U LaTouR" in Vancouver on March 28, 2008, stopping in a limited engagement 33 major market cities through mid-May, ending the U.S. leg in Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen's home town of Chicago. Ministry then heads off to play the principal European festivals as well as choice club dates beginning late May stretching through to July.

Exclusive pre-sale tickets for the North American "C U LaTouR," offered by Music Today, go on sale this Thursday, November 15 and can be purchased here www.ministry.tickets.musictoday.com, as of Thursday. Exclusive Special Limited Access VIP tickets will also be available for purchase via the pre-sale, offering advance doors, seating, meet & greets and souvenir 13th Planet gift bags.

The "C U LaTouR" touring line-up features Ministry's founder Al Jourgensen being joined onstage by guitarists Tommy Victor (Prong) and Sin Quirin (Revolting Cocks), keyboardist John Bechdel (Prong, AoTW, False Icons), and drummer Jimmy DeGrasso (ex-Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies, Alice Cooper). Static X's Tony Campos has recently stepped in to fulfill bass on behalf of the recently departed Ministry/Killing Joke bassist Paul Raven. Joining the Ministry clan as Special Featured Artist will be Fear Factory/Ascension of The Watchers vocalist Burton C. Bell. Main support is Swedish experimental metal Meshuggah and opening act is the U.S.-based Hemlock.

To coincide with "C U LaTouR," Jourgensen's indie imprint is scheduled to release Ministry & Co-Conspirators "Cover Up," a 12-track covers release featuring artists from the 13th Planet Records family, as well as other special guests. "Cover Up" is scheduled for a late March/early April 2008 release.

For its spectacular two-and-a-half-hour "C U LaTouR" set, Ministry will perform tracks from "The Last Sucker" as well as songs that revisit the band's rich and provocative 30-year musical history. Archival Ministry videos plus other visual elements of alchemy, Christianity, politics and other topics aligned with Ministry will be incorporated into a special video presentation, produced by "Wicked Lake" director Zach Passero (with whom Jourgensen is collaborating on the soundtrack for the feature film) that will change night to night. And, as is expected from a Ministry show, you just never know what surprise guests will jump on stage for a song or two.

"A Ministry tour is a traveling circus," states Jourgensen. "When we roll into town, everyone hides their daughters, but the freaks roll out the red carpet and a friend or two pops up on stage to add some spice and mayhem to the show. We never know who's gonna walk through the dressing room door at sound check. We rehearse a bunch of 'extra' songs just in case so-and-so shows up..."

KOCH RECORDING ARTISTS WITHIN CHAOS ESCAPE A BRUSH WITH DEATH!

While on their way to perform live at the this years’ CMJ festival in New York City, just
days ago, KOCH recording artists, Within Chaos were traveling in their RV through the Smokey
Mountains on Interstate 40 around Baileyton, Tennessee when smoke started leaking into the back of the vehicle. The band’s bassist, Jim Taylor was driving the RV at the time, didn’t notice it for a while, but when he did, he pulled over immediately into the shoulder. The rest of the members were asleep. Once he noticed the smoke puffing out from right behind the back right wheel, he immediately woke the rest of the guys up!

Within Chaos frontman, Danny Reid stated “A UPS driver that was driving by pulled over,
ran to the RV with his fire extinguisher and sprayed it into the area where he saw the smoke coming from. A cop also happened to drive by and ran up with a fire extinguisher. Right about then, a flame shot out of a vent in the side of the vehicle, and a thick white cloud of smoke followed. The fire extinguisher wasn’t working at all. At this point, we were sure the thing was going up, and Jim ducked in to see if he could salvage anything. There was too much smoke filling the space for him to see anything, except for the fire completely engulfing the bed that guitarist Jason Huggett was sleeping on just a minute earlier. We all took off about 100 feet away from the fire, and watched it burn our transportation, clothes, food, money, guitars, etc.., hoping the fire wouldn’t spread to our trailer and burn ALL the equipment. The fire department pulled up in three trucks, completely stopped all traffic and put the fire out before it ever got to our trailer. But as you can see from the photos, it burned everything but the metal in the RV!”

Drummer Travis Denham & Jason both went to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation, they
were given tests, and fortunately all checked out fine. Thanks to that all who helped. Also, because after the band had lost everything (including their shelter) in the fire, the Red Cross put the band up in a hotel for the night and even gave them a bit of money to buy some clothes. Determined to make it to CMJ, the Texan boys rented a U-Haul and headed straight up to New York and played their show. As the saying goes.. The show must go on! Now that’s Metal!

Ghost Machine guitarist reveals band has 33 songs ready for next album

Ghost Machine guitarist John Stevens (ex-Clay People) has revealed more details about the creation of the group's debut album and the group's follow-up album, which is slated for release sometime in 2008.

"The entire process of the Hypersensitive album took place either in my studio at my house, except for the drums, which we needed a facility that would properly capture the drum tones. We recorded them at Assembly Line studios in Vienna, VA, and Orange Whip in Santa Barbara, Ca" says Ghost Machine guitarist John Stevens. "In comparison to the last release, this one was carrying the weight of a lot of baggage from our lives. The music for Edification was about my ex, my kid, my life. This whole album was very personal for all of us. It was the perfect chance for Ivan and I to disclose and say goodbye to some personal demons we both carry. Strange how 95% of our material starts out as an insightful instrumental that I write to listen to by myself, but the most tracks that are most impacting were "Sheltered" and "Vegas", which were generated from Wingnut and Crispy respectively. But it's really about honesty. We can't hide the who we are."

Ghost Machine, which also features Five Finger Death Punch frontman Ivan Moody and former Motograter drummer Chris "Crispy" Binns, recently released the band's d ebut album Hypersensitive on Corporate Punishment Records. The album engineered and co-produced by Pete Murray (Ultraspank, Lo-Pro) and draws from a wide range of influences that range from like NINE INCH NAILS, THE CURE, PINK FLOYD, ALICE IN CHAINS, TOOL and MINISTRY.

"The new CD is written and ready for studio. It's the most incredible stuff I've ever been involved with or written. We have yet to choose from 33 tracks which ones are going to represent our lives at this time." says Stevens. "It will be a double disc, with full band input as opposed to the last two releases being more of a directed out of my studio with Ivan. We are going to do full band rehearsals and get everyone involved. We are also looking at a few different producers to work with on many different songs to keep the sound vibrant, different and well rounded. The self titled and Hypersensitive albums were mainly produced by me, but this time we want to find more outside perspectives that have the same vision we do then see what happens with the end result."

SILVERCHAIR SWEEPS ARIAS (Australian Grammy® Awards) TO BECOME ALL TIME AWARD LEADERS IN ARIA HISTORY WITH 19 TOTAL AWARDS!

Silverchair swept the 2007 ARIA Awards in Sydney last night. They won five ARIAs - more than any other artist this year. Most significantly the band took out the prestigious Album Of The Year award for their acclaimed Young Modern. While they've had five chart-topping albums over their career, this was actually the first time that any Silverchair release has received that honor.

They received the following awards:
Album Of The Year
Best Group

Last night's haul took the band's career tally to 19 eclipsing John Farnham's previous record of 18 career gongs. Silverchair opened the Awards telecast with a memorable performance of "Straight Lines" and set the tone for a very special night that cemented Silverchair in their rightful place as one of the most acclaimed and successful bands in Australian music history

The ARIAs capped the busiest few months of the band's entire career. They have toured non-stop over the last 16 weeks racking up nearly 60 shows around the world including international festival appearances and their hugely successful "Across The Great Divide" tour with co-headliners, Powderfinger. WIND-UP RECORDS’ FINGER ELEVEN ACHIEVES CROSS-OVER SMASH WITH “PARALYZER”

PARALYZER” RINGTONE / RINGBACK AND FULL-SONG DOWNLOAD SALES UP WEEKLY ACROSS THE BOARD WITH STRONG SUPPORT FROM VERIZON WIRELESS

Finger Eleven’s fourth album on Wind-up Records THEM VS. YOU VS. ME has delivered the band’s second crossover hit with “Paralyzer.” The song achieved the number one position on the Alternative, Active and Mainstream Rock charts. Subsequently, “Paralyzer” has crossed over to CHR, where it stands at 22 this week, and is a hit at HAC, where it continues to move towards the top ten at 16 with a bullet.

In a market where ringtone and ringback tone success is heavily owned by the urban worlds of rap and hip-hop, the song is an example of where the mobile and on-line space can help propel the rock genre. An early indicator of the enormity of the song’s popularity came via Verizon Wireless shortly after the company entered into a distribution deal with Wind-up Records.

Well before “Paralyzer” began its climb to the top of the charts, organic interest in Finger Eleven, and the song, emerged from Verizon Wireless customers. The ringtone / ringback tone began its rise as a limited time exclusive offering from Verizon Wireless, and as early as April, 2007 it entered the Top 40 of the mobile leader’s chart, well before the song crossed to pop radio. With continued support, the song has continued its popularity with Verizon Wireless customers reaching the top 10 on the Tones What’s Hot Chart.

Wind-up Records Chief Operating Officer / Executive Vice-President of Business and Legal Affairs Jim Cooperman shared, “Paralyzer’s success in the mobile space, coupled with the fact that the song imminently will be certified as a Gold download, demonstrates that the digital space remains a fertile landscape for the rock genre and we see tremendous opportunity for growth in this area. We are grateful to our digital partners such as Verizon Wireless for providing Wind-up and its artists with a level playing field in which to compete.”

“The instant popularity of ‘Paralyzer’ proves that mobile first is an effective way to reach music lovers of all ages and interests,” said Ed Ruth, director of music for Verizon Wireless. “Verizon continues its leadership role in music by allowing music fans to discover and download a wide range of music anytime, anywhere.”

The relationship between both companies continues to deliver glimpses of a successful case study of the future of the record business. Wind-up Records’ latest phase of marketing around Finger Eleven’s headline tour of the U.S. tagged Verizon Wireless in the television and on-line advertising rather than a traditional retailer. The call to action in the spots and the ad drove Verizon Wireless customers with V CAST Music-capable phones to text F11 to 8910 for direct access to Finger Eleven music. At the same time, Verizon Wireless ran an artist feature promoting “Paralyzer” and other songs from the band’s repertoire delivering a 94% increase in tone sales as a result.

Faber Drive paged to "Surgery"

Canadian quartet Faber Drive’s debut album, Seven Second Surgery, is in stores today. The album features the singles "Tongue Tied” and "Second Chance."

Faber Drive got their first break when lead singer/guitarist, Faber, submitted a song to a Vancouver radio station’s battle of the bands in 2006. The band won the competition and soon the pieces started coming together. Faber Drive hooked up with Hinder producer Brian Howes and Nickelback producer Joey Moi, who were blown away by Faber’s acoustic demos. Howes asked if he could co-write with Faber and Moi offered to start preproduction. Faber Drive wrote Seven Second Surgery while on the road with fellow Canadian rockers, Headly, and in Moi’s studio.

SEETHER AND WIND-UP RECORDS ANNOUNCE TRACK LISTING FOR OCTOBER 23RD RELEASE FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACES

Rock band Seether, and Wind-up Records have announced the track listing of FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACES. Seether’s third studio album for the label will be released on October 23, 2007. In just five weeks at radio, the lead single “Fake It,” is already number 4 on the Active Rock chart, and number 8 at Alternative. The complete track listing is “Like Suicide,” “Fake It,” “Breakdown,” “FMLYHM,” “Fallen,” “Rise Above This,” “No Jesus Christ,” “6 Gun Quota,” “Walk Away From The Sun,” “Eyes of the Devil,” “Don’t Believe,” and “Waste.”

The South African émigrés, who now live in the Los Angeles area, are coming off three consecutive gold certified studio albums. Their debut DISCLAIMER, was re-released following sales of over 500,000 copies with a DVD and bonus tracks which included the pop hit “Broken” from The Punisher feature film. This expanded version of the album titled DISCLAIMER II went on to sell 687,251 copies, making it the first debut album to be certified gold twice. The band’s follow-up KARMA & EFFECT, has sold 711,985 copies according to Soundscan since release. As a bridge between studio albums, Seether released the CD/DVD ONE COLD NIGHT, a live, acoustic offering captured in Philadelphia, PA. The new album titled FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACES will be the band’s third U.S. studio recording of new material. Singer Shaun Morgan offered, “We didn't restrict ourselves to straight rock songs, and we were completely open to new ideas. This is not by any stretch of the imagination a concept album, nor is it a 'woe is me, I'm sober' album. We explored our melodic side a little bit more, and as a result, I believe this is our best collective effort to date. It may come as a surprise to some, but we feel like we've grown and are starting to find our place with regard to the sound of the band." Seether is Shaun Morgan (Principal Vocals / Guitar), Dale Stewart (Bass) and John Humphrey (Drums).

Seether will appear on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on Monday, October 29th, and on the nationally syndicated program Rockline the evening of October 22nd.

SCUM OF THE EARTH RETURNS WITH ‘SLEAZE FREAK’ DUE OUT OCTOBER 23 ON ECLIPSE RECORDS

A long time in the making, SLEAZE FREAK will be released October 23 on Eclipse Records, just in time for Halloween. Riggs' comrades in Scumdom are Brandon (bass, background vocals), Skylar (guitar), and Adrian Ost (drums).

“Bombshell From Hell” is SLEAZE FREAK’s first single, which is going for radio adds October 15. A performance video for the track—directed by Ron Najor (Angels & Airwaves)--was recently shot in Los Angeles and should invade TV and Internet airwaves within the next couple of weeks.

SLEAZE FREAK—which was written and produced by Riggs--contains 13 new songs (including “I Am Monster,” “Macabro Expectaculo” and “Corpse Grinders”), a cover and 28-page full-color booklet with exclusive artwork by self-proclaimed “Freakazoid” artist Paul Garner, plus a bonus 30-minute DVD packed with unbridled, no-holds-barred confessions by Riggs, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Riggs and the band. Myspace.com diva and metal goddess, Metal Sanaz, also appears on the DVD, recording her vocals on “Love Pig.” She’s been posting video blogs of the band from recording sessions shot at Studio 2100 in Springfield, MO since June.

Most of the songs on the new album were recorded with Riggs' one-of-a-kind "Skin" guitar. It's a custom Fernandes Vertigo guitar wrapped in real pigskin that’s been sewn together. Riggs is planning to have various artists tattoo the pigskin in the future. Two tattoos currently decorate the guitar: one of a skull and crossbones and one with the words “fuck you” along the top which only Riggs can see when he’s playing the guitar.

“I wanted it to look like ‘Leatherface’ from ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre,’ except on a guitar,” explains Riggs. “I’ll have it forever, so I’m planning on having a bunch of artists put tattoos on it. Hopefully it’ll be a few years before it starts to fall apart, although it’s already starting to smell and rot a little. But it’s still cool. It also kind of looks like Freddy Kruger’s face.”

He is also the owner and creator of another one-of-a-kind guitar made by Fernandes--a lucite one filled with fake blood, which can be seen in the “Bombshell From Hell” video. “I put it together with the president of Fernandes years ago,” says Riggs. “We messed around with water to make sure it wouldn’t spill out when I played it. It sounds amazing.”

The new music, 13 tracks of searing stripper-metal, capitalizes on the same formula which worked perfectly on BLAH...BLAH...BLAH..., but with more guitar solos, slick, percussive bass lines and Riggs' trademark blood-steeped lyrics. The first single, “Bombshell From Hell,” flaunts a hard-driving, instrumentally lacerating sound, which screams out to the world, letting us know that SCUM OF THE EARTH are unleashed and getting their dead on once again.

For Riggs, making music with SCUM OF THE EARTH is like bringing things full circle, many times over. As he explains, “It’s hard starting over again, because I’ve been in bands for 17 years. I started off as a teenager in the band Screw in 1990. We even got to do our first record with Ministry, who were recording in the same studio as us. Then I was in Prong for about a year before meeting Rob Zombie and joining his band. I went from sleeping in a van to a huge tour bus, back to a van and now I own my own tour bus! After I left Rob’s band I knew I had to start over again. I’m excited to have SCUM OF THE EARTH as my very own and I’m anxious to get out there and promote the hell out of our music. It’s such a good feeling to know that I don’t have to answer to anyone anymore except myself.”

DOLMAYAN TURNS SYSTEM OF A DOWN'S HIATUS INTO ONLINE COMIC BOOKS RETAIL VENTURE

With multi-Platinum rock band System of a Down currently on hiatus and his Scars on Broadway project with SOAD's Daron Malakian in the early stages, drummer John Dolmayan will fulfill his other passion of comic books and collectibles by launching Torpedo Comics (http://www.torpedocomics.com/), an exclusively Internet-based retail store. Torpedo Comics goes live on November 1, 2007, and will boast some 15-million items - comic books, toys, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, superhero action figures and other comic book-related memorabilia, ranging in price from 99-cents to six-figures.

Dolmayan, who has been collecting comic books since he was 12, houses Torpedo Comics' inventory in a just-completed 30,000-square foot warehouse in Las Vegas, NV where he now lives. He employs a staff of 25 who catalogue and care for rare items like Sensation Comics issue #1 (the first solo series featuring Wonder Woman), just about every key issue of Marvel and DC comics including Marvel Comics' issue #1, multiple copies of Giant Size X-Men #1, plus superhero action figures from Marvel, X-Men, Superman, and Batman titles. Torpedo Comics will also offer original comic art, created between the 1940s and the present, by some 150 different artists, including Jim Lee, Art Adams, Bernie Wrightson, and Alejandro Gaza.

Dolmayan incorporated his love for comic books into the drum kit that he played during System of a Down's 2006 tour. Dolmayan contacted 22 of his favorite comic book artists, including Jim Lee, Simon Bisley, Kevin Eastman, Neal Adams and Bill Sienkiewicz, were each sent various pieces of the drum kit onto which they drew original illustrations.

As for Dolmayan and Malakian's Scars on Broadway venture, the two have been writing and rehearsing new material and plan to begin recording their debut album today, September 27, intended for a Summer 2008 release.

As drummer for System of a Down, Dolmayan shared in the band's global success of some 20-million albums sold, headlining sold-out arenas, having three consecutive #1 albums on the Billboard charts, four Grammy nominations and one win for Best Hard Rock Performance, all the while maintaining a high musical integrity, its core fan base, and its position as one of the most unique band in rock.
